The survey is anonymous and can be completed until 18 September.

Towards a New Policy Period

Like many publicly funded cultural institutions, Performing Arts Fund NL works within multi-year policy periods. While the current 2025–2028 period is still well underway, preparations are already being made for what comes next. Important steps are being taken towards 2029.

These include discussions about a possible change to the funding period, the development of a new policy mandate for the Fund by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), and the preparation of new funding schemes. We will also be engaging with the sector throughout this process.

We believe it is important to provide insight into these developments. That is why we are launching a series of updates on our website. In this first edition, we look back on the recent application round for multi-year production grants.

Between 2025 and 2028, Performing Arts Fund NL will receive 9.6 million euros annually in additional fair pay funding to help strengthen the position of makers and other professionals in the cultural sector.

Part of this budget will be distributed through venues and festivals, enabling them to make better arrangements regarding fees for artists and performers. In addition, the Fund contributes to the Fair Pop Fund, through which Dutch pop acts can apply for a supplement to their performance fee.

From 9 to 12 July, the Performing Arts Fund NL welcomed international jazz programmers to a visitors’ programme organised in collaboration with North Sea Jazz, LantarenVenster, North Sea Round Town and Buma Cultuur. During North Sea Jazz, the programmers were introduced to Dutch artists including Tijn Wybenga / Brainteaser Orchestra, Benjamin Herman, Suzan Veneman, Tineke Postma and the North Sea String Quartet.

They also explored Rotterdam’s vibrant jazz scene, with special attention given to Ben van Gelder’s commissioned composition during its try-out performance at LantarenVenster.
